Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Education Center

US Fish & Wildlife, Brigham City, Utah

The project consisted of a new 30,000 SF building on 10 acres of critical wetland area, built to a LEED standard. The building includes two functional laboratories with equipment, laboratory casework, fume hood, administrative offices, an education center, museum, 140 seat auditorium, outdoor class area, and maintenance facility bays.

The unique design, which includes a number of rounded walls and sound reflecting panels that allow the visitors to better hear the bird calls from the adjacent marsh, mirrors the fluid lines of a bird in flight.  HHI designed, constructed, and installed all of the displays, including a number of three dimensional exhibits displaying the habitats of wetland birds. HHI also constructed the exterior boardwalk and bridges with reclaimed wood. The project was built in a marsh area which required deep footings and foundations to be cast while a pump dewatered the site.
