Fort Carson Automatic Sniper Range
Fort Carson, Colorado
This 102-acre project involved four separate firing lanes extending from 100-1000 meters with a variety of 39 Targets placed across 100 meter increments. These targets included Stationary Infantry Targets (SITS) and Moving Infantry Targets (MITS). Each target consisted of four 6” think precast concrete sections with electrical and communications panels. The MITS also included a track system that allowed for target movement. The individual power centers were placed along the length of the rang and were protected with 2’ thick concrete. Demolition of existing buildings was required for construction of seven new buildings including a Range Tower, Operations and Storage, Men’s & Women’s Restrooms, Ammo Break Down Building, Dining Room, Enclosed Bleacher Building, and Classroom.
The Automated Sniper Range project involved large amounts of earth work, which had to be coordinated with a third party for disposal of live ordinance discovered in the range. Additional scopes involved structural steel, roofing, concrete, and mechanical work. The range involved heavy site electrical and communication work for the SITS and MITS. Extensive environmental controls were required including numerous permits with Fort Carson and the State of Colorado jurisdictions. This project received an OUTSTANDING Evaluation from USACE Omaha and was completed two months ahead of schedule.
