Steam Plant Building 1286
Building 1286 is a steam plant that serves many buildings on Hill Air Force Base. When the original steam plant, built in 1942, could no longer serve the busy base’s needs, HHI stepped in to upgrade the boilers. HHI installed a new three-boiler system featuring chemical feed piping to keep it clean and running efficiently. A back-up generator with a 1000-gallon fuel tank serves the plant in the event of outages. This project also included seismic upgrades of structural, mechanical, electrical, and piping. The existing buildings was outfitted with two boilers to maintain “N+1” boiler redundancy in the plants. The new boilers will achieve ultra-low oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions of nine (9) parts per million (ppm). The system is serviced by new fuel pumps and a fuel filtration system with both natural gas piping and fuel piping. The building was seismically retrofitted and upgraded to contain the boiler equipment, including deaerator tanks, surge tank and pumps.
