Active Standoff Chamber

Dugway Proving Ground, Utah

This Design-Build project consisted of two phases. The first was the construction of a cast-in-place concrete slab which was then used as the base for the building. HHI then installed all of the interior equipment, including onsite assembly of the components. This included a Dissemination Chamber, Air Curtain, Circular Outlet, and all of the ductwork.

The chamber is used to test static cloud conditions, calibration of referee instruments, and evaluation of standoff Chemical Biological (CB) agent detectors.

With the large movement in the structures, HHI utilized a simple box structure approach. The exterior of the box is a structural cage with each face of the box providing diaphragm and shear resistance to the loads imposed on the structure through wind, seismic and thermal expansion. HHI fabricated all of the catwalks, handrails, and stairs, as well as field assembled/fabricated all of the structures.
