Ammunition Supply Point, Fort Carson, CO

This new vertical construction design-build project entailed the construction of several blast-proof facilities at Fort Carson, Colorado. This included a 24,000 SF Ammunition Inspection Repair and Repacking Facility (AIRPF), a 16,000 SF ammunition storehouse, four 2,240 SF earth-covered magazines (ECMs), and a 12,000 SY open storage area.

All buildings with the ASP facility were designed to contain live ammunition. Every bullet, grenade, artillery shell, and explosive used at Fort Carson passes through these buildings. With over 26 million rounds a year, these blast-proof facilities needed to be designed and constructed with immense scrutiny to allow the mission of the 4th Infantry Division to continue safely. The AIRPF structure was a Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) with split face CMU. This large PEMB facility included four work bays, vehicle loading areas, a large storage bay, electrical and mechanical rooms, a communication room, a break room, storage room, and several personnel offices.

A cast-in-place concrete vault with vault door was installed for munitions storage and included restrooms with locker rooms and showers. The ammunition storehouse included three work bays, vehicle loading areas, a large storage bay, a processing area, electrical and mechanical rooms, a communication room, men’s and women’s restrooms, a break room, storage room, and several personnel offices with CMU.
