Building 517/518
This design-bid-build project entailed the renovation and conversion of two three-story World War II-era buildings into high-tech office buildings with each buildings accommodating 150 users. Building 517 and 518’s interiors were upgraded to house a high-tech recruiting center with computer stations and 3D printers. The facility met all USAF cybersecurity requirements and HPSB standards. Sustainability features included high-efficiency thermal, air conditioning, and heating systems, as well as low-flow plumbing fixtures.
The utility systems, both aboveground and underground, were replaced and rerouted to integrate them with the new design. Upgrades to the electrical systems included power and distribution, communications, security, and lighting. The existing space had a low ceiling height, allowing little room for the new HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing systems.
The exterior of the building features new site grading, walkways around the facility, and exterior paving, which extended Building 518’s parking area. The low-water landscaping design includes cobble rocks and drought-resistant plants. MH JV removed the old windows and upgraded the buildings to feature high thermal performance blast-resistant windows.
