Child Development Center

Hill Air Force Base, Utah

This Design-Build project was performed by HHI Corporation. The Child Development Center (CDC) is a state of the art masonry structure that provides a safe and secure daycare and educational environment for up to 266 children. This project received an OUTSTANDING evaluation by the US Army Corps of Engineers and a Design Concept Award of Merit from Air Force Material Command. Classrooms and offices are isolated with STC rated walls; doors, hardware, and fixtures are all specialized for children. There is a CCTV system with more than 85 cameras. All entrances have CCTV surveillance with controlled entrances/exits.

The project met AT/FP requirements and included all of the surrounding grounds including driveways, large parking area with 88 stalls, exterior lighting, play equipment, landscaping, utilities (water, gas, sewer, power) and all supporting features. The project met all energy requirements and mechanical systems reported through the BACnet control system. Lightning protection was provided as well as a complete wet pipe fire sprinkler system. The contract time was extended by a user modification to upgrade the facility drinking water system. The Design-Build project team submitted the LEED credits in two phases, design and construction, and achieved LEED Silver certification.
