Hangar 48 Renovation

Hill Air Force Base, Utah

The Hangar 48 renovation project at Hill AFB was designed for the new F-35 and its three variants. The project involved the reconstruction of the existing hangar and enlarging it to meet the mission of the F-35 aircraft. The rebuilding included: replacement of the hangar doors on the flight line (North) building face, extending the North face of the hangar by replacing roof structure and the supporting box truss above; construction of a two-story extension to the building on the South Face, total replacement of the metal roof; temporarily supporting all of the primary existing columns in-place while completely replacing/enlarging the footings below; adding helical foundation piers and, extending the airfield paving at the hangar face to connect with the reconstructed building. This project was performed within a secure area, on the flight line of Hill AFB, and it has both a wet-pipe sprinkler and high-density foam fire protection.
