Navy Tech Dorm
This multi-story design-bid-build renovation project entailed repairs and improvements to the student dormitory in Bldg. 10055. This project showcases HHI’s experience working with barracks, renovation work, and completing projects in Texas.
A mechanical platform was installed in the attic above the third story to house the ERU units, a new Direct Outdoor Air Supply (DOAS) with an energy recovery unit to enhance energy efficiency and a newly installed transformer to power the entire building. All interior surfaces were demolished and abated for fungal growth. Newly rebuilt rooms were given new Level Five drywall finishes, protective wallboard wainscotting, solid surface countertops, resilient engineered plank flooring, porcelain bathroom tile, terrazzo shower basins, cabinets, and fixtures. The team reconfigured the vanity and bathroom areas, along with the associated plumbing, to increase the number of lavatories and showers (from 48 to 96) so as to allow for a greater number of occupants per room. HHI also replaced all exterior sealants and door hardware. These renovations are designed to exceed minimum navy student dormitory standards and modernize an aging building.
