Objective Helicopter Icing Spray System

HHI designed and constructed a test stand that was used for in-flight artificial icing and rain testing for the CH-47F Chinook Helicopter. This project which was built for Battelle Memorial Institute, tested the low-speed/low-altitude environments to ensure the helicopter’s weapon systems would be capable of operating in a worldwide environment. HHI performed the steel fabrication and installation. HHI also provided data, power, air and water to the helicopter through an umbilical system. The OHISS was built as an outside testing fixture which required it to be able to hold up against the elements, capable of lifting the 50,000 lbs. helicopter into the air.
